How Stepping Outside of My Comfort Zone Was Beneficial To Me...

So, if you read my post from Sunday (and you betta being reading that good advice!) you would know that at this point in my life, it's really important to me that I am surrounding myself with the right people. I want to be around folks who will have a positive influence over me and of course I want to have the same positive influence over them.

Although social media can be an AMAZZZINNNGGG thing, it's very difficult to know what's reality with perfectly curated posts. Not only is it super difficult finding real relationships on the gram, but I am SO turned off by Facebook these days. I feel like I'm invited to these groups that seem interesting at first, but then the group becomes so disingenuous that I can't believe I ever got suckered into it in the first place. Like please, stop sending me a friend request and then turning around to add me to a group where all you want me to do is throw money at your pyramid scheme product. Like, just stop it already! Why can't we just be in a group where we actually like each other and build one another up and just talk about where you got that cute outfit from or how you got your lashes so lashtastic?!

Well, believe it or not, last week I actually found the perfect Facebook group! If you follow me on the gram, or if you follow Dani Austin on any platform (if you don't, then you should), you'd know that there's this thing called The Sassy Club. (I know you just thought, "Well you sure are sassy Hayley so I'm sure you fit right in." Das right, I'm sassy and I like it like that.) Okay, moving's an online Facebook group that is all about being completely transparent about who you are as an individual, sharing your struggles in life, giving grace to yourself, and encouraging others just because it's a nice thing to do.

As I entered into this group and began sifting through all the comments I never once saw a single negative word on this page, and you guys, that's a freaking miracle don't ya think?! I introduced myself and basically the rest was history. I began connecting with several other girls all over the country and before I knew it I felt like a had an entire new group of girlfriends.

The best part about it is....I ACTUALLY DID FIND NEW GIRLFRIENDS! Yep that's right! Right here in Houston there were a ton of other girls that previously joined the group, as well. We created our own little group called The Sassy Club HTX and last week Tuesday we all took a leap of faith and without ever meeting one another in person we decided to meet up at FM Kitchen, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made!

Some of us blog, some of the girls have their own YouTube channel, some girls are photographers, and others just love social media. It was such a blessing to meet everyone and I can't express how thankful I am to have found a great group of girls with the same interests and positive mindsets. After just one week, we all began texting back and forth and going to lunch with one another. How incredible is that?! We'll be meeting again in two weeks and I am so excited to see what happens with this group!

It was such a leap of faith and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little scared, but look at what taking a chance did for me! I made new friends. I gained valuable knowledge in regards to blogging. I gained some new followers on social media. Basically, everything I gained was positive!

Since I had such a great experience I wanted to share a few things I learned:

  • Social media, especially Facebook, isn't always a waste of time as long as you plug yourself into the right spots
  • If you step outside of your comfort zone great things are on the other side just waiting for you
  • Being kind to everyone will be a blessing to you and to others in some shape or form
  • Finding friends with common interests can light the fire within you to reach your goals
  • It's never too late to start something new

Throughout the rest of this week and all weekend long, I want to encourage each of you to do something outside of your comfort zone. Whether that means going to a hot yoga class by yourself, attending Sunday service at a new church, or applying for your dream job even though you may not have all of the credentials, just go out there and DO THAT THING! Our lives are short and God has only given us so much time on this earth to be a blessing to others. Don't miss an opportunity to really live your life to the fullest, and don't miss an opportunity to be a blessing to someone else no matter how big or small that blessing may be.

Leave a comment below and let me know what new thing you tried out this week! Remember, you are the only person who's holding yourself back, but you're also the only person who can push yourself forward, therefore, you have full control over your life. All you have to do is go get it, sister!
